Idiot Fish

Idiot Fish is the creation drummer/composer Wally Schnalle. It’s a project that has been brewing since 2010 when it first appeared live at San Jose Jazz Fest. After many incarnations thus latest ensemble features the world’s leading jazz Bassoonist Paul Hanson, Bulgarian Guitarist Hristo Vitchev, Frank Martin on keys and Aaron Germain on bass, it’s a contemporary jazz tour de force. Schnalle’s compositions are fueled by the best of fusion traditions yet they are fresh and forward-looking. Schnalle has performed his music not only in the US but his ensemble has toured many countries in Asia as well.

Scratchy Fish

Scratchy Fish grew out of the De Anza College jazz combos and big band classes in 2017. We are on our 4th revision of band members. Our music is improvisational and is primary arrangements of modern popular music from artists like Radiohead, David Bowie, and Sting. We also do some jazz stuff too but we are not a fake book jazz band.

We have been described as playing "progressive jazz with balls [sic]".
