Starting scenes happy and healthy and with no trouble is a great strategy especially for newer improvisers or anyone who tends to start scenes with problems. At the beginning of a scene (and throughout) we're trying to create a situation and characters from nothing (as well as listen, remember and a big basket of other tasks). Conflict and problems distract us from doing the things that help the scene.

Yet positivity involves so much more than just not being negative. Some of the many ways that positivity helps:

--Knowing things as the character.

--Being curious as the improviser.

--Being interested in the offers of the scene.

--Being excited (or open to excitement) by what happens in the scene.

--Adding more specifics to the scene.
