In creating the imaginary world of the improv scene one of the most powerful and least utilized skills is interacting with space objects. If we can hold a hammer, fold a shirt or arrange some flowers convincingly, our imagination and the audience’s imagination will be engaged. The key to making a space object come alive is creating the resistance of the object, making it a thing that can not be crushed and persists in our mind’s eye. The payoff for making it come alive is that we now have a scene partner who can do some of the work of the scene. In this class we’ll practice holding things that only exist in our imagination and using them in scene work. Whatever your level of space object confidence is, this class will push you to a greater appreciation what you can create with just your hands and your imagination.
